HEC Montréal takes 1st and 3rd places in the CPA Case Fight
September 21, 2015
Two HEC Montréal teams won gold and bronze in the first edition of the CPA Case Fight, a case-writing competition for candidates registered in the CPA Professional Education Program.
1st place: Croque nature case
The team sponsored by Martine Davidson, Full-time Lecturer in the Department of Accounting Studies, took first place. Her team was made up of Vanessa Audet, Jasmine Bergeron and Nathalie Germain. The three students shared the $5,000 first prize.
3rd place: BIZZ-Ness inc. case
The team sponsored by Jacques Fortin, formerly a Full Professor in Accounting at HEC Montréal, with students Leïla Abouzeid, Yannick Brodeur-Magna and Gabriel Giguère, won the $2,000 third prize.
To enter the competition, candidates had to submit a multidisciplinary case study (in French or English) alone or with a team (maximum of four people). This not only let them apply the theoretical concepts they have learned but also prepared them to write the Common Final Examination (CFE), the CPA professional examination.
For this first edition of the competition, 11 teams submitted case studies, for a total of 28 participants. The winning teams shared $10,000 in prizes. A team from the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue took 2nd place.
