March 17, 2017
The Alphonse and Dorimène Desjardins International Institute for Cooperatives has presented the Award of Excellence in the Coopératives-HEC Montréal Contest to Anne Gauthier.
A student in the Maîtrise en gestion (MSc) – gestions en contexte d'innovations sociales program, Anne was selected by a jury made up of HEC Montréal professors and researchers.
The award, along with a cash prize of $500, was presented to her in recognition of the quality of her thesis, focusing on 14 Inuit communities in Nunavik that chose co-operatives as a means of socio-economic development in the early 1960s. In it, she examined whether this specific type of business, with its social and solidarity goals, had given the communities some control over their development. After spending time in Kuujjuaq, she published her thesis, entitled Le Nunavik d’aujourd’hui : coopération ou « entreprisation »?, in October 2016.
The second edition of the contest will open on May 22 of this year.
