Biography
This economist by training, an HEC Montréal alumnus (1958), taught for over 15 years at the School (1958–1974) and at the École nationale d’administration publique (1979–1988). After an incursion into the world of politics, he became Deputy Governor (1988–1994) and later Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada (1994–1999). In that capacity, he remains the only Francophone whose signature appears on a Canadian banknote, in circulation since 1935.
