General Questions

+

Where is the MSHC?

The MSHC's office is located in Room 2.522, at the Côte-Sainte-Catherine Library. To get there, please ask at the Library circulation desk.

+

What services does the MSHC provide?

The MSHC offers five categories of services:

  1. self-assessment tests;
  2. workshops;
  3. electronic resources and information videos;
  4. individual assistance in mathematics and statistics;
  5. data analysis support.
+

Can I work at the MSHC?

Yes, you can join the MSHC as soon as you've completed one year at HEC Montréal. Initially, it will be possible to provide individual assistance for courses that have already been validated.

For workshop presentations, candidates must demonstrate expertise in the workshop themes. They must therefore have obtained very good grades in their courses and, in the case of software, have completed at least one academic or professional project with them.

To apply, please send us your CV by email.

Terms and Conditions

+

For Whom?

MSHC services are reserved exclusively for HEC Montréal students.

+

How Much Does it Cost?

The MSHC services are free.

+

Can the centre help me understand the subjects covered in class?

This is not the purpose of MSHC's activities. Students' plan A should be to schedule an appointment with their teacher or intern. Most courses beginning with MATH have a teaching intern.

Using the MSHC's individual help service should be the students' plan B, especially when their difficulties are related to the prerequisites of their courses.

+

What are mathematics or statistics prerequisites?

These are concepts or skills that are assumed to have been acquired in courses or programs whose validation is conditional on the student's admission. Some professors communicate their course's specific prerequisites  in the course syllabus or during the first session.

The vast majority of mathematics and statistics prerequisites can be found in the MHSC's workshop themes and self-learning tutorials.

+

How does an individual help session work?

The student indicates the course abbreviation and topic in his/her reservation.

During the session, he or she asks questions relating to parts of the course or exercises whose understanding is hampered by mathematical or statistical aspects, or by the use of Excel, Python, R, Matlab, Stata, SAS and SPSS software.
