Self-assessment Test, Certificate Program
The following test is a reflection of the content of the Mathematics Refresher Courses, for which the Mathematics and Statistics Help Centre is responsible. This test will help you determine your strengths and weaknesses in mathematics. You'll then be able to decide whether you need to register to the refresher courses or to an online learning tool. It's important to note that many of the courses offered by HEC Montréal have a quantitative aspect, for which the concepts covered in these refresher courses are necessary.
The mathematics assessment test will cover the following concepts:
- Numerical calculus
- Proportions
- Algebraic calculus
- Equations
- Functions and modeling
- Exponential and logarithmic functions
- Derivatives of functions
The result of this test will not affect your admission to HEC Montréal.
To take the test, go to the access page here. The same test has been in use since Fall 2022 to allow students to compare themselves to a large group in the feedback process. Be sure to use the “Réviser les résultats” button at the bottom left of the page that appears after you've submitted your test, to immediately see information about your performance on every question and in every part of the test. It goes without saying that you can also skip certain parts of the test if you know they are less relevant to your revision needs.
If you score less than 70% in a section, we strongly recommend that you register for the corresponding math refresher course offered at the beginning of the semester, in September or January (Mathématiques de gestion 1, 2 or 3). Details are on the page that appears after you have submitted your test.
