Math Assessment Test (Newly Admitted Students to the Preparatory Year)
Students Admitted in the Fall 2024 Semester: In-person Test on the First Session of MATH 10606 Course
Starting in 2024, the mathematics assessment test is mandatory for all new students admitted to the preparatory year (HEC Montréal). Only students coming from expert mathematics specialties are exempt from the test.
The purpose of the test is to evaluate your mathematical skills acquired in high school and college, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and determine whether you need to take a refresher course or not.
It is important to note that the result of this test will have no impact on your admission to HEC, but it will determine whether you can be exempted from MATH 10606 (Mathématiques d'appoint) as a prerequisite for MATH 10600 (Calcul différentiel).
In order to be exempted from the MATH 10606 refresher course, you must obtain an overall test score of at least 70 out of 100. Please note that :
- Each student may take the test only once, and there is no registration fee associated with this process.
- A student who does not take the test will automatically be enrolled in the MATH 10606 refresher course.
The mathematics assessment test will cover the following concepts:
- Numerical calculation
- Algebraic calculus
- Sets and functions
- Modeling and solving equations
You will have access to your test results on the day of the assessment.
