Bloomberg Businessweek ranking: the School’s MBA rated highly again
December 20, 2018
For the 8th straight year, the HEC Montréal MBA has been ranked as one of the best in the world by the US magazine Bloomberg Businessweek. Only six other Canadian business schools made the list of 124 schools.
Close to 27,000 students, alumni and recruiters were interviewed for the ranking. The methodology changed this year, to more accurately reflect the evolving needs of future students. The weightings of each of the four indexes were determined by their importance in the eyes of the survey respondents.
- Compensation (38.5%): graduates’ salaries, placement rate after 3 months and bonuses
- Networking (27.9%): quality of networks (students and alumni, students and employers) and career management services, interactions with the alumni network after graduation, and reputation from recruiters’ viewpoints
- Learning (23.1%): intrinsic quality and practical applications of the program, degree of emphasis on innovation, problem solving and strategic thinking, support from instructors, class sizes
- Entrepreneurship (10.5%): teaching of this subject, development of talents in this area
HEC Montréal was scored especially well in the Learning and Entrepreneurship indexes. The students and alumni interviewed stressed the School’s good price-quality ratio in comparison with others, the support from staff and opportunities for contact with technology entrepreneurs, the hands-on and collaborative nature of the program and, lastly, the diversity of students and the quality of teachers.
