Bloomberg Businessweek ranking: the School’s MBA among the best in the world
December 17, 2019
For the ninth straight year, the HEC Montréal MBA has been ranked as one of the best in the world by the US magazine Bloomberg Businessweek and is up one rank compared to last year.
A total of 131 schools around the world appear in this ranking, which this year is divided into four regions: Asia–Pacific, Canada, United States and Europe. Only seven other Canadian business schools made the list, after close to 27,000 students, alumni and recruiters were interviewed for the ranking. The weightings of each of the four criteria evaluated were determined by their importance in the eyes of the survey respondents.
- Compensation (37.3%): graduates’ salaries, placement rate after three months and bonuses
- Learning (25.7%): intrinsic quality and practical applications of the program, emphasis on innovation, problem solving and strategic thinking, support from instructors, class sizes, collaboration
- Networking (21.3%): quality of networks (students and alumni, students and employers) and career management services, interactions with the alumni network after graduation, and brand power from recruiters’ viewpoints
- Entrepreneurship (15.7%): teaching of this subject, development of skills and drive in this area
HEC Montréal scored particularly well on three of these criteria: learning, networking and entrepreneurship. The students and alumni interviewed stressed the diversity of students, the exceptional quality of teachers and the practical aspect of the program.
