Over $1.4 million in grants to doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows

Granting agencies and three of their partners promoting research in Canada awarded research grants to 23 doctoral students at the School and 8 postdoctoral fellows for a total of close to $1.4 million in 2018–2019. They were selected by different expert committees, based on the quality of their academic records and their research potential.

SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS D) and Doctoral Fellowships (DFP)

This competition, by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), is open to all doctoral students in Canada and is among the most competitive. Candidates must have an exemplary academic record and very high research potential.

NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS D) and Postgraduate Scholarships – Doctoral (PGS D)

Every year, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) awards scholarships to students in a PhD program whose research topic is related to the natural sciences or engineering. This year, a scholarship was awarded to one HEC Montréal student.

Doctoral research scholarship – Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Students (PBEEE)

This scholarship program is managed by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT) and funded by the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur du Québec (MEES).

The objective of these scholarships is to support the internationalization of research activities at Quebec’s institutions of higher education and to attract the best foreign researchers and students.

Doctoral research scholarships (FRQSC)

Six doctoral students were awarded scholarships from the Fonds de recherche du Québec société et culture (FRQSC).

Doctoral research scholarships (FRQNT)

This FRQNT program awarded scholarships to three HEC Montréal PhD students whose research topics relate to natural science or technology.

FRQSC scholarship for internship in a practice environment (BSMP)

The FRQSC awards these scholarships to graduate students looking to carry out an internship of two to six months in a practice environment.

FRQSC postdoctoral fellowships

The FRQSC awarded scholarships to two postdoctoral fellows at HEC Montréal whose research topics meet FRQSC objectives.

Fin-ML CREATE scholarships

Five HEC Montréal PhD students were chosen to receive Fin-ML CREATE scholarships, as part of the NSERC–CREATE Program on Machine Learning in Quantitative Finance and Business Analytics (Fin-ML CREATE).

This multidisciplinary program aims to form a new generation of finance professionals to meet modelling and implementation needs and challenges in the Canadian quantitative financial industry.

MITACS Accelerate internships

Mitacs Accelerate is Canada’s most extensive research internship program. It allows graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and university professors to extend the scope of their research by teaming up with various partners, including private companies and non-profit organizations.
