Over $900,000 in research scholarships to Master’s and Bachelor’s students

In 2018–2019, 58 MSc and BBA students at HEC Montréal received over $900,000 in research scholarships from granting agencies and three of their partners promoting research in Canada.

They were all selected by juries of research experts, based on the quality of their academic records and their research potential.

NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards and FRQNT supplements (USRA and BPCA)

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) awarded 7 scholarships to HEC Montréal students conducting research internships as part of their Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program. Each award recipient also received a supplement from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT) for completing the internship. Note that six students from other Quebec universities also helped some of our professors as part of NSERC undergraduate research internships.

IVADO research scholarships

The Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO) awarded five scholarships to HEC Montréal BBA students specializing in data science, so that they could carry out research internships in summer 2019.

Note that one student, Enora Georgeault, also received an IVADO merit scholarship for her Master’s studies that she began in the 2019 fall term, in the Data Science and Business Analytics specialization.

SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarships for MSc students

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) awarded ten scholarships to HEC Montréal MSc students in the thesis track.

NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarships for MSc students

Last year the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) awarded two scholarships to HEC Montréal MSc students in the thesis track.

SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship — Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement

One student from the School received this supplement, intended to support research internships abroad by MSc students who have received a Canada Graduate Scholarship.

B1 Master’s research scholarships (FRQSC)

The Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC) awards this scholarship to MSc students in the thesis track. The scholarship is renewable for up to six consecutive terms.

B1X Master’s research scholarships B1X (FRQNT)

The FRQNT awarded these research scholarships to three students starting or continuing a Master’s-level university program in a field relating to the natural sciences or engineering.

Bourses Frontenac (FRQNT)

The FRQNT awarded a Frontenac Scholarship to one MSc student at HEC Montréal, who had to decline the offer after changing study programs.

These scholarships are intended for students in all fields of study enrolled in a Master’s program leading to a joint France-Quebec diploma. The objective is to make it easier for Quebec students to go abroad, by funding a stay of at least 3 months at a university in France.

MITACS Accelerate scholarships

Mitacs Accelerate is Canada’s most extensive research internship program. It allows graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and Canadian and international partner university professors to extend the scope of their research by teaming up with private companies or some non-profit organizations.

In all, 30 HEC Montréal MSc students were awarded these scholarships in 2018–2019.

Fin-ML CREATE scholarships

Lastly, in 2018–2019, one HEC Montréal MSc student received a scholarship to take part in the NSERC-CREATE Program on Machine Learning in Quantitative Finance and Business Analytics.
