Two faculty members of the School, Valerie Bélanger and Patrick Soriano, gained distinction for an article on operational research they co-authored with Angel Ruiz from Université Laval and published in 2019 in the European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR).
The article entitled Recent optimization models and trends in location, relocation, and dispatching of emergency medical vehicles appears in a list of the 25 most cited articles during the last 3 years of the prestigious scientific journal.
This paper summarizes and discusses modern modeling approaches to address problems related to ambulance fleet management. The article specifically deals with the issues of vehicle location and relocation, as well as emergency resources dispatching decisions. In addition to providing a review of earlier research on the topic, it focuses on recently developed approaches to address tactical and operational decisions, and the interactions that exist between these 2 types of decisions.
