This year's Gérard Parizeau award goes to René Garcia

HEC Montréal has presented the 2022 Gérard Parizeau Award to René Garcia, a full professor of economics at the Université de Montréal.
This prestigious award, accompanied by a cash prize of $30,000, is presented alternately by HEC Montréal and the Université de Montréal. This year's award recognizes Professor Garcia's outstanding contribution to the study of economics and financial markets. The winner will give a public lecture on the theme of his choice as part of the official presentation of the prize, which will take place on October 11, 2022.
About René Garcia
Professor Garcia has a PhD and M.A. in Economics from Princeton University and the Université de Montréal and is a fellow of the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en analyse des organisations (CIRANO), a researcher at the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en économie quantitative and an associate member of the Toulouse School of Economics. He began his career as a professor at the Université de Montréal in 1992, pursued it in 2007 at EDHEC Business School and has been back at the Université de Montréal since 2016.
Among his many accomplishments are his participation in the establishment of the discipline now known as econometrics of finance through the launch of the Journal of Financial Econometrics in 2003, in collaboration with Eric Renault, as well as his contribution to the creation of innovative programs, including the interdisciplinary master's degree in mathematical and computational finance at the Université de Montréal and the doctoral degree in finance at EDHEC Business School for high-level executives in the financial industry.
He also held the Hydro-Québec Chair in Integrated Risk Management and Financial Mathematics from 2002 to 2006, as well as the vice-president of the Finance group and scientific director of CIRANO. His long-standing involvement with CIRANO has been instrumental in developing partnerships and close ties between university research and financial practice.
To date, he has given more than 250 scholarly papers in seminars and conferences, has more than 6,500 citations in Google Scholar and has received 3 best paper awards.

The Gérard Parizeau Fund was created in 2000 and honors the memory of Mr. Gérard Parizeau, a leading figure in the Quebec insurance industry. It pays tribute, through the annual awarding of the Gérard Parizeau Prize, to leading figures in the fields of management, economics and history, by highlighting the value and originality of the thought and work of researchers, professors or people of action.
