February 3, 2023
The organizing committee of the Acfas convention officially announces the appointment of Dr. Caroline Quach-Thanh as Honorary Chair of its 90th edition, which will be held jointly on the campuses of HEC Montréal, Université de Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal.
Professor in the Université de Montréal Faculty of Medicine, pediatrician and microbiologist-infectious diseases specialist at CHU-Sainte-Justine, and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Infection Prevention and Control, Dr. Caroline Quach-Thanh has distinguished herself as an expert in simplifying issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic for the general public. “A committed scientist as well as an outstanding communicator, Dr. Quach has succeeded in promoting science in difficult circumstances and revealing its importance for the well-being of society,” states Jean-Pierre Perreault, President of Acfas.

As Honorary Chair, Dr. Caroline Quach-Thanh will contribute to the convention’s outreach and the promotion of scientific culture. “Such an event is essential as it allows us to share science in French. What is extraordinary about the Acfas convention is the wide range of topics that are discussed there. This allows researchers like us to broaden our horizons on subjects that are not directly related to our areas of expertise, and this is where transdisciplinarity takes on its full meaning,” asserts Dr. Quach-Thanh.
This important gathering will take place from May 8 to 12, 2023, under the theme “100 years of knowledge for a sustainable world”. It will be an opportunity to celebrate the centenary of the organization, while also conveying the importance of university research in addressing current societal challenges. The preliminary program of the convention is now available on the Acfas website.
