Gilbert Laporte named Knight of the Ordre National du Québec

Gilbert Laporte, Professor Emeritus at HEC Montréal, was conferred the title of Knight of the Ordre National du Québec for having contributed to building a creative, innovative, and united society in Quebec. This is the highest distinction awarded by the Government of Quebec
Since 1985, more than 1,200 eminent individuals from all sectors of society have been inducted into the Order under three different ranks: Knight, Officer, Grand Officer.
About Gilbert Laporte
Gilbert Laporte holds a PhD in operational research from the London School of Economics (1975). Appointed Professor Emeritus at HEC Montréal in 2021, he taught at the Department of Decision Sciences for 44 years and also directed the Canada Research Chair in Distribution Management from 2001 to 2020.
In his capacity as researcher, he is a member of the Group for Research in Decision Analysis (GERAD) and the Interuniversity Research Centre on Enterprise Networks, Logistics and Transportation (CIRRELT). He is also a Professor at the School of Management of the University of Bath, United Kingdom, and at Molde University College, Norway.
He has authored or co-authored over 20 books and 600 scientific papers during his career, in addition to receiving 3 honorary doctorates from the Université de Liège, the Eindhoven University of Technology, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Member of the Order of Canada (2018) and the Royal Society of Canada (1998), he has earned numerous distinctions, including the following:
- Goodeve Medal from the Operational Research Society (2022)
- Killam Prize from the Canada Council for the Arts (2021)
- Marie-Victorin Prize from the Quebec Government (2018)
- He was named the most productive and influential author in Operational Research and Management Science worldwide, according to a study in Omega – The International Journal of Management Science (2017)
- Lifetime Achievement Award in Location Analysis, INFORMS (2014)
- Robert M. Herman Lifetime Achievement Award in Transportation Science, INFORMS (2009)
- Innis-Gérin Medal, Royal Society of Canada (2007)
