Human resources: Jean-François Harvey and Xavier Parent-Rocheleau make a mark

Professors Jean-François Harvey and Xavier Parent-Rocheleau have both received awards from the editorial board of the Human Resource Management Review (HRMR) for their publications in this journal.
The 2018-2022 Best Article Award was first granted for an article co-authored by Jean-François Harvey and Amy C. Edmondson (Harvard Business School). Entitled “Cross-boundary teaming for innovation: Integrating research on teams and knowledge in organizations”, this article presents an innovative theoretical model to address the challenges faced by teams comprising members from different professions or organizations.
For “Algorithms as work designers: How algorithmic management influences the design of jobs”, co-authored with Sharon K. Parker (Curtin University), Xavier Parent-Rocheleau received the 2022 Best Article Award. The study focuses on the phenomenon called “algorithmic management”, i.e., the introduction of automated systems, operated by algorithms, in personnel management functions normally reserved for human beings.
About both winners
Jean-François Harvey is an Associate Professor at the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and he has a PhD in Management from HEC Montréal and a postdoctoral degree in management from Harvard Business School. He won the School’s New Researcher Award in 2019. Editorial Board Member of Human Relations and HRMR, he specializes in organizational learning, innovation management as well as teamwork and collaboration.
Xavier Parent-Rocheleau is an Assistant Professor at the Department of HR Management and in charge of this specialization in the MSc in Management programme. He has a PhD and an MSc in Human Resource Management (HRM) from UQAM, as well as a postdoctoral degree from Curtin University. He is also a member of the International observatory on the societal impacts of AI and digital technology (OBVIA). His areas of expertise include the digital transformation of work, managerial leadership, technologies and HRM.
