Louis Jacques Filion awarded an honorary doctorate by Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières

Louis Jacques Filion, Professor Emeritus at HEC Montréal, received an honorary PhD from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) during a ceremony held on June 12 this year.
This honor was awarded to him "in recognition of his exemplary academic career, be it the excellence of his teaching or the significance of his numerous publications. Professor Filion is well known for his dynamism and leadership, and he has contributed to the improvement of teaching and research programs on entrepreneurship.”
The UQTR hails the importance of his contributions to research and teaching in the field of micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) management. His achievements are all the more outstanding because he was active in this field at a time when the focus of management programs was on large organizations.
Louis Jacques Filion has created many original courses on entrepreneurship and MSME management, and produced a variety of teaching documents. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 case studies.
This honorary doctorate also highlights the international dimension of Professor Filion’s career, during which he has been a professor, researcher, expert, and speaker in different countries, across all continents.
Finally, it rewards his research work that promotes the development of emerging paradigms in entrepreneurship, particularly with regard to innovative activity systems, visionary processes, business creation and technological entrepreneurship.
About Louis Jacques Filion
Born in Trois-Rivières, Louis Jacques Filion grew up in an entrepreneurial household.
He holds two Master’s degrees, including an MBA from HEC Montréal, as well as a PhD in Systems and Entrepreneurship from the University of Lancaster, in Great Britain. He has enjoyed a variety of work experiences, having been a consultant at Ernst & Young and director of marketing at Fiducie Desjardins.
He was a professor at HEC Montréal from 1993 to 2016, first in the School’s Department of Management, and then from 2014, in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which was his creation. He also directed the Rogers-J.A. Bombardier Chair of Entrepreneurship for over 20 years.
Louis Jacques Filion established several organizations to support entrepreneurs, including the Centre d’entrepreneuriat du cœur du Québec (Trois-Rivières) and the Centre d'entrepreneurship HEC-Poly-UdeM. He also helped create the Institut de la Francophonie pour l'entrepreneuriat (IFE – Mauritius).
He is a prolific and well-known author, with over a hundred publications in six languages. Several of his books have become bestsellers in both France and Quebec. A dozen have received awards for their quality. His 30th book, Cirque du Soleil : complicités innovantes, was launched at the School last May.
