A BBA team excels in a finance competition
Van Berkom JMSB Small-Cap Case Competition

The HEC Montréal delegation won second place in the 13th annual Van Berkom John Molson School of Business (JMSB) Small-Cap Case Competition which took place on March 22 and 23, 2024, at Concordia University.
During this case competition focused on small-cap investment, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA – Finance specialization) students and members of the HEC Montréal Student Investment Fund (FPHEC), Alexandru Celac, Charles Frédette, Charles-Alexandre Lembregts and Liam Parolin, competed with 8 North American teams, including one other team representing the School.
The students first took part in a preliminary round, with alumnus Julien Galisson (HEC Montréal 2019 and 2021) acting as their coach. The 25 participating teams were allocated one week to analyze a case on Andlauer Healthcare Group, a healthcare supply chain services company in Canada and the United States.
For the final round, which took place over 2 days, the 9 finalist teams had to solve 2 cases, present them to a jury consisting of specialists and industry experts and answer their questions:
- Day 1 – Quincaillerie Richelieu, a Quebec-based specialty hardware distribution and manufacturing company.
- Day 2 – VusionGroup, a French digital solutions company.

When compared with the other finalist teams, several of whom are enrolled in MSc and MBA programs, the HEC Montréal delegation stood out for its analytical abilities and strategic recommendations, based on the academic skills acquired in the classroom.
