Creation of the Chair in organizational ethics and AI governance
December 3, 2024
Professor Joé T. Martineau from HEC Montréal’s Department of Management is the new holder of the School’s Chair in organizational ethics and AI governance.
The activities of this new Research Chair were officially launched on November 28 this year. The creation of this Chair has been one of HEC Montréal’s research and knowledge transfer priorities, in terms of sustainable transition and organizational ethics.
The Chair was made possible thanks to financial contributions from:
- IVADO-Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ). IVADO is an interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral consortium for research, training and knowledge mobilization in artificial intelligence (AI);
- Confiance AI, an industrial consortium that brings together and supports companies in the development and deployment of trusted AI; and
- The HEC Montréal Foundation.
Mission and Objectives
By developing both theoretical and practical knowledge, the Chair will provide better support to organizations for improving individual and collective capabilities to address the many ethical challenges faced by them. The Chair will mainly help to shed light on challenges related to the development and deployment of ethical and responsible AI.
The research program of the Chair in organizational ethics and AI governance will focus on three areas:
- Management of the ethical dimension of organizations
- Ethical and responsible AI governance
- Development of ethical competence among organizational actors
The fact that this Chair is one of the first to focus on organizational and corporate governance of AI is worth mentioning, since until now, the topic of AI governance has been analyzed primarily from the perspective of public policy and technology regulation.
