Engagement award presented to Claude Laurin

The 2024 Jean-Marie Toulouse Engagement Award was presented to Claude Laurin for his outstanding contribution to the internal functioning and development of HEC Montréal.

Claude Laurin is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Accounting.


Involvement in Education

Claud Laurin was hired by HEC Montréal in 2000 and quickly became involved in more than just his professorial role at the School. He contributed to various activities including research, administration and teaching. As director of the CMA training program, he helped increase the visibility of the School and the Department of Accounting among Quebec universities. His expertise in management accounting enabled HEC Montréal to attract renowned professors and train numerous people in this field.

Innovations and Recruitment

Claude Laurin held several executive positions between 2006 and 2021, including Director of the Department of Accounting, Director of the MSc program and Director of Faculty Affairs. He promoted the international recruitment of faculty members and the hiring of full-time lecturers, as well as the development of new specializations in the MSc program. He also introduced the “supervised project” in the MSc program, thereby adding to its appeal.

As the Director of Faculty Affairs from 2014 to 2021, he was instrumental in the recruitment of over 150 people and played a key role in developing the School’s first formal strategic plan. During the pandemic, he helped maintain teaching and research activities through innovative solutions.


Support for the Management and Strategic Guidelines

Since 2021, Claude Laurin has continued to support the management of HEC Montréal as Accreditations, Rankings and Program Evaluation Director. He currently contributes to reviewing the 2024–2027 Strategic Plan and is joint chairperson of the 2024 Centraide campaign.
