HEC Montréal ends the competition season brilliantly
Chulalongkorn International Business Case Competition (CIBCC)
June 5, 2024
On the 10th edition of the Chulalongkorn International Business Case Competition (CIBCC), which was held in Thailand from May 20 to 26, 2024, the BBA delegation from HEC Montréal managed to secure 2nd place in the general ranking, behind the University of Auckland and ahead of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Like its 19 opponents, the School selected its best members to represent it due to the end of the competition season and the CIBCC’s high level of difficulty. They were as follows:
- Alice Gravel-Chouinard
- Léo Piché
- Philippe Tremblay
- Amélie Vachon
The School also chose Professor Céline Gemmel as a coach to accompany them.
The university teams went head-to-head in two case studies:
- The first one lasting 8 hours, tested the team’s ability to rapidly analyze and strategize within a condensed period. It focused on Siam Piwat, a real estate development company that operates Bangkok’s most visited retail chains.
- The second one lasting 24 hours, required strategic thinking and comprehensive analytic skills. This involved the WHA group, Thailand's leader in fully integrated logistics and industrial facilities solutions.

In addition to the outstanding performance by the School delegation, Philippe Tremblay was also named the best presenter of the competition.
At the end of this season, HEC Montréal stands an excellent chance in the finals of the 2024 championships, which will be held in Auckland in January 2025.
The School’s University Competitions Service would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of the student delegation, as well as the HEC Montréal Alumni Association for its financial support.
