Matteo Cacciatore appointed as a Research Associate at the NBER

Matteo Cacciatore, a professor in the Department of Applied Economics, has been appointed as a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) within the International Finance and Macroeconomics Program.

This prestigious role places him among an elite group of scholars who shape economic research and influence policy decisions globally.

Founded in 1920, the NBER is globally recognized as the leading research organization in economics and finance. As a private, nonprofit institution, the NBER is dedicated to producing cutting-edge, unbiased research that informs policymakers, business leaders, and the academic community. Research Associates like Professor Cacciatore play a central role in shaping the research agenda within their respective NBER programs.

This appointment marks a significant milestone in Professor Cacciatore’s career and strengthens HEC Montréal’s international standing at the highest level in economics. In 2016, Matteo Cacciatore became the first professor from our School to join the NBER as a Faculty Research Fellow. He is one of the very few researchers from Canadian universities appointed by the organization.

About Matteo Cacciatore

Matteo Cacciatore joined HEC Montréal in 2010. He holds a PhD and an MA in Economics from Boston College, as well as a BA in Economics from Bocconi University. His expertise spans international macroeconomics, macroeconomics, and international trade—areas in which his research continues to have a significant impact on the global stage.
