October 15, 2024
Two members from HEC Montréal, Professor Caroline Aubé, Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer and Alexandre Auger, Director of Information Technologies, have been appointed to sit on a consultative body on artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education in Quebec.
This body, which was presented by the Minister of Higher Education, Pascale Déry, on October 8, comprises 37 representatives from student federations, teachers and faculty members and Quebec educational institutions. It also includes AI experts and members representing the government.
Ms. Aubé will participate in this body as Chair of the Research Committee of the Office of Interuniversity Cooperation (BCI), while Mr. Auger will act as Chair of the BCI’s Information Resources and Digital Transformation Committee.
Towards optimal and responsible use of AI
The main objective of this national initiative is to optimize the use of AI to improve student success and develop digital skills while ensuring responsible and ethical use of this technology. The members of the body will focus on three areas:
- Establish a common framework by defining the principles for responsible, ethical, sustainable and safe use of AI in higher education.
- Set strategic priorities by establishing key AI guidelines and facilitate exchanges between the Ministry of Higher Education and its network.
- Develop and implement concrete AI-related initiatives.
Thanks to this double appointment, HEC Montréal will be at the forefront of monitoring the insights of the members of this body and quickly integrating the best academic practices relating to AI into its own educational and research initiatives.
