Environment: PhD student Nicolas Pinsonneault stands out

April 23, 2025

At Americana 2025, North America’s largest multi-sector environmental event, doctoral student Nicolas Pinsonneault (specialization in Applied Economics) received the Irma-LeVasseur – Relève distinction from Réseau Environnement. This distinction is awarded annually to a person aged 18 to 35 who has distinguished themselves through their professionalism and performance in developing or improving environmental knowledge or activities.

Currently completing the third year of his doctorate, the holder of a Master’s degree in Management – Applied Economics and a Bachelor’s degree of Business Administration from the School has particularly distinguished himself for his commitment to raising awareness about water service financing. Alongside Professor Justin Leroux, he has taken part in a provincial tour dealing with this topic and has contributed to the drafting of a report that will support Quebec’s new drinking water conservation strategy. Together, they have also co-hosted online training sessions for municipal stakeholders on the equity and social acceptability issues related to water financing.

Nicolas Pinsonneault’s research interests include political and environmental economics. His research focuses on issues of time inconsistency in climate policy. He examines carbon contracts for difference as tools that aim to stimulate green investment amid the uncertainty which results from electoral cycles and unpredictable changes in pricing.
