January 22, 2025
A paper co-authored by Gilbert Kofi Adarkwah, assistant professor at HEC Montréal, and Peter Kallum Schou, professor at BI Norwegian Business School, has been recognized as one of the Journal of Small Business Management’s (JSBM) 10 Most Impactful Papers of 2024.
This recognition highlights the importance of their research on entrepreneurial opportunity development in online communities.
Entitled "Digital Communities of Inquiry: How Online Communities Support Entrepreneurial Opportunity Development", this paper explores how online communities can help entrepreneurs develop their business. By analyzing 18,670 comments from four different entrepreneurship communities on Reddit, the study found that these communities offer valuable support by providing feedback, emotional support and models that reduce uncertainty.
Results reveal that interactions in these virtual communities allow entrepreneurs to better navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship. Online comments and discussions play a crucial role in providing diverse perspectives and helping to refine ideas and strategies. This research also highlights the growing interest in digital entrepreneurship.
Each year, JSBM selects papers that have made a significant impact in the field of small business management. The selection of Professor Adarkwah’s paper among the best of 2024 is a testament to the relevance and quality of his work.
