Simon Dermarkar named Fellow of the Ordre des CPA du Québec

Simon Dermarkar, Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting, has received the distinguished title of Fellow of the Ordre des CPA du Québec (FCPA). He will be officially honored at an event celebrating the new Fellows of the Order on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
The title of Fellow seeks to recognize the merit of the Order’s members who have rendered outstanding services to the profession, and whose achievements in their careers or in the community have earned them distinctions and brought honour to the profession.
This title is presented each year to less than fifteen CPAs among the 41 000 members of the Order. The new FCPAs are joining a select group that now includes 644 people.
About Simon Dermarkar
Simon Dermarkar has been a professor at HEC Montréal since 2015. He also serves as an advisor to the Office of the Secretary General and leads a working group on the implementation of generative AI in teaching and research.

He earned his Master’s and PhD in accounting at Université Laval. Before starting his doctoral studies, he practiced financial auditing in a large accounting firm. He is a member of the Program Committee and the Disciplinary Council of the Ordre des CPA du Québec. He is also a member of the Barreau du Québec.
His research interests focus on regulations for the professional practice of accounting and auditing as well as the governance of organizations that oversee such regulations. He is also interested in the impacts of digital transformation on the accounting profession and education, as well as in the evolution of governance and accountability mechanisms in the field of sustainable development and the protection of personal information.
