These fees provide priority registration for the INTE 60004A Quebec Experience course and French language courses, which help international students integrate into the Quebec and Canadian job markets.
For more information, see the fees by program.
For the thesis stream, fees are set for each term; for the supervised project stream, fees are calculated depending on the number of credits. Regardless of the number of terms completed, if you switch from the supervised project to the thesis streams you must pay the tuition fees of the 1st term registered on the thesis stream.
Fees for research-oriented programs are calculated per term. If you take courses that are not in your program structure, you must pay an additional fee per credit based on the applicable rate.
Rate definitions
Quebec rate
The Quebec rate includes only the basic amount charged to all students as well as compulsory institutional fees, with no lump-sum differential fee.
If you are among the following clientele, you can receive the Quebec tuition rate, under certain conditions:
- Quebeckers
- Canadians who are Quebec residents
- French citizens in a graduate or PhD program
Not part of this clientele? You may still be able to receive the Quebec tuition rate. See the list of exemptions (Canada or other countries) for more information.
Canadian rate (non-resident of Quebec)
In addition to the basic amount charged to all students and the compulsary institutional fees, the rate for Canadians who are non-residents of Quebec (NRQ) includes a lumpsum differential fee set by the Quebec government that is sometimes subject to a supplemental increase.
A lump sum without a supplemental increase applies if:
- You are a Canadian non-resident of Quebec and meet one of the following conditions:
- You are enrolled in a study program held in French, are not enrolled in an independent studies program, and are not registered for courses outside your program.
- You are studying in the MSc thesis stream.
- You have Canadian/French or Canadian/Belgian dual citizenship.
- You are an international student receiving an exemption, for example, as an undergraduate French student.
The lump-sum differential fee with a supplemental increase applies if:
- You are a Canadian non-resident of Quebec and you meet one of the following conditions:
- You are studying in a program held in English other than the MSc thesis stream.
- You are an independent student or are taking courses outside your program.
- You are a refugee, protected person, or person in need of protection and you meet certain conditions.
See the list of exemptions to find out if you are eligible for the Quebec rate.
International rate
In addition to basic amount charged to all students and the compulsory institutional fees, the international fee includes a lump-sum differential fee set by the Quebec government and HEC Montréal for international students.
See the list of exemptions to see if you can receive a lower rate.
