Admission process – MBA

Interested in applying for admission? Take a few moments to read this essential information and begin the process with confidence!

Gather the required documents

You will need to send us some documents. Start gathering them now! A few days after submitting your application for admission, you will receive an email telling you when and how to provide your documents.

Your application will be evaluated once all the required documents have been submitted, including the results of an admission test (GMAT, TAGE MAGE, GRE).

The selection committee reserves the right to request an individual meeting to clarify certain aspects of your application.

School documents

Copy of your official transcript for your undergraduate degree (not required for studies completed at HEC Montréal).
If relevant, you can also provide professional certifications or transcripts from other completed university studies.
Photocopy of your undergraduate diploma.

Documents relating to your professional experience

Up-to-date curriculum vitæ.

Letter of intent

A document answering the following question: Where would you like to take your career after completing an MBA at HEC Montréal? (500 words maximum).

If you have already applied for admission, you must also answer the following question: How has your application changed since the last time you applied? Be sure to tell us about any changes in your work, study, or volunteer experience (250 words maximum).

Video essays

Within a week of submitting your application, you will receive a link to the Kira Talent online platform. From there, you will be asked to spontaneously answer four pre-recorded questions. These video essays will help us get to know you better.

Letters of recommendation

Two letters of recommendation completed using form from the Registrar’s Office.

At least one of the letters must testify to your professional skills and ideally come from a supervisor.

Official results of an admission test

Official results from one of the following tests: GMAT, TAGE MAGE, GRE.

Proof that language requirements are met

Programs in English

Either a copy of your transcripts to prove that you meet one of our criteria;
Or a result from an English test or an English program that corresponds to an intermediate-advanced level and was obtained within the past two years. Official scores on tests taken outside HEC Montréal must be sent directly by the issuing organization.

Programs in French

Either a copy of your transcripts to prove that you meet one of our criteria;
Or a result from a French test or a French program that corresponds to an intermediate-advanced level and was obtained within the past two years. Official scores on tests taken outside HEC Montréal must be sent directly by the issuing organization.

Translation of documents

We require an official certified translation for any document drafted in a language other than French or English.

Who can certify the translation?

The consulate or embassy of the country of origin
A member of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ)
An official translator

Take note of the fees associated with your application

Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada: $108.51

International applicants: $336.14 (fees are higher due to the complexity of analyzing the application)

These fees are subject to change without notice and are not refundable.
Payment methods accepted: credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), debit cards, dual function cards (credit-debit).
Prepaid cards are not accepted.

Submit the required documents

An email regarding the documents to be submitted will be sent within three business days of the application being submitted. This may take longer due to statutory holidays.

In the email, you will find your HEC Montréal student ID number. This student ID number will allow you to access your HEC en ligne account.
You must submit the required documents in PDF format (PDF, 205 KB) through HEC en ligne > Documents > Documents Upload no later than the deadline of the round to which you applied.
Only complete applications will be reviewed.
Certain original documents may be requested when you arrive.

You will receive an email 4 to 6 weeks after the deadline for the round to which you applied, to let you know that a letter has been submitted to your HEC en ligne account.

You have been offered admission?

You must respond to the offer.
Your legal status in Canada determines the tuition fees you will have to pay. Check if you need to provide any documents to confirm your status.
