Before leaving

On your way to Montréal

Keep these documents on hand – never in your luggage:

  • Passport
  • Letter of admission to HEC Montréal
  • Letter from your home university confirming your exchange
  • Authorizations to enter and study in Canada, if applicable:
    • Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)
    • Letter of introduction to obtain a study permit, mailed to you by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
    • Temporary resident visa
  • The document allowing you to request a required health insurance exemption from HEC Montréal, if you are eligible. Otherwise, you have a way to pay your insurance fees.
  • Your payment cards and money (e.g., credit cards, cash, and traveller’s cheques)
  • Any medication you may have.

Upon arrival

  • Make sure you have these documents on hand when you arrive in Canada:
    • Your passport
    • Letter from your home university confirming your exchange
    • Letter of admission from HEC Montréal
ImportantIf you have applied for a study permit, go to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (after going through passport control). The agents will deliver your study permit to you at this time. You must also present:
    • Your Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)
    • Letter of introduction to obtain a study permit, mailed to you by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
  • At the airport, visit the Accueil Plus kiosk. They will provide helpful information for getting started in Montreal. You can use their internet access and make an international call.
  • If one of your bags has been delayed and you do not have a definitive address, you can provide the address for the International Exchange Program office:
