Checklist
Checklist in preparation for your exchange
Planning your stay for an exchange can be a complex process. Make sure you do not miss anything important—follow this checklist we have prepared for you.
Before leaving
- You have received any required authorizations to enter and study in Canada:
- Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)
- A study permit letter
- A temporary resident visa
- A transit visa
- You have obtained the document allowing you to request a health insurance exemption from HEC Montréal. Otherwise, you have a way to pay the insurance fees (credit card or traveller’s cheques).
- You have registered for management and/or language courses.
- You have booked temporary or permanent lodging.
- You are registered for Accueil Plus support service.
- You have packed some warm clothing that won’t leave you shivering when cold weather sets in. You will purchase other clothing suitable for Canadian winters when you arrive in Montréal.
On your way to Montréal
Keep these documents on hand – never in your luggage:
- Passport
- Letter of admission to HEC Montréal
- Letter from your home university confirming your exchange
- Authorizations to enter and study in Canada, if applicable:
- Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)
- Letter of introduction to obtain a study permit, mailed to you by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
- Temporary resident visa
- The document allowing you to request a required health insurance exemption from HEC Montréal, if you are eligible. Otherwise, you have a way to pay your insurance fees.
- Your payment cards and money (e.g., credit cards, cash, and traveller’s cheques)
- Any medication you may have.
Upon arrival
- Make sure you have these documents on hand when you arrive in Canada:
- Your passport
- Letter from your home university confirming your exchange
- Letter of admission from HEC Montréal
ImportantIf you have applied for a study permit, go to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (after going through passport control). The agents will deliver your study permit to you at this time. You must also present:
- Your Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)
- Letter of introduction to obtain a study permit, mailed to you by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
- At the airport, visit the Accueil Plus kiosk. They will provide helpful information for getting started in Montreal. You can use their internet access and make an international call.
- If one of your bags has been delayed and you do not have a definitive address, you can provide the address for the International Exchange Program office:
