What to do after you find an internship?
Congratulations! You are on your way to gaining real professional experience.
Don’t forget to make sure your program office has approved your internship or project and that you are registered for an internship course or project in HEC en ligne.
Your first days
This is what you can expect during the first days of your internship:
- Visit the building and your workspace
- Presentation of the team and/or staff
- HR information: pay, taxes, leave, medical, schedule and work hours
- Training needed to do your job properly (different practices)
If your internship is with an SME, or this the first time the employer has hired an intern, your first days probably won’t look like this, but you can ask for these things to happen.
A meeting with your superior to
- Establish objectives and specific duties for your position
- Discuss skills to develop
- Discuss supervision and expectations for communication:
- Time and duration of your meetings
- Working from home or on site
Tip
At the start of an internship, discuss your goals and expectations with your superior. This will let your manager know what you want to do so they can give you the type of experience you are expecting from your internship. Make sure to read your job description carefully and ask for clarity where needed! You likely have your own expectations as well, such as coaching and training, or what projects you will be working on. Be prepared so you can put your best foot forward and show that you are professional!
