When to do an internship?
When to do an internship?
It is up to you to decide in which term to do your internship, be it summer, fall or winter. Employers usually start advertising internships 4 months before the start date, so make sure to get an early start!
Important dates
See your program’s administrative pages.
You need to know
For summer internships, some employers start recruiting in early fall, such as for finance, consulting, and accounting internships.
Many of these employers are involved in recruiting activities throughout the year at HEC Montréal or off campus.
Winter term | Internships posted starting in September |
Summer term | Internships posted starting in or before January |
Fall term | Internships posted starting in January |
Our advice
- Do not rule out doing an internship during fall or winter term, even if it means graduating a bit later. A future employer will look favourably upon your internship or project experience, and it will not matter if you graduated later. Furthermore, there is much less competition for internships in the fall or winter than in the summer.
- International students: Make sure you have the necessary authorizations to work in Canada.
