Transcription de la vidéo GenAI-assisted text correction (ChatGPT)
As you know, artificial intelligence can be a very powerful tool for improving the quality of your texts. But you must first know how to use it properly.
Before you dive in or even open the tool, you need to stop and think. The trap you want to avoid is using the tool right away and trusting it blindly, especially when it comes to correcting a text. GenAI can sometimes unintentionally change the meaning of your sentences or even create repetitions if the prompt was not well written.
In the previous phase, “preparation and reflection,” when you finish writing your text, it is important to clarify what you want to ask the tool. In this case, it’s to correct the text. Next, you need to identify your specific needs, such as correct spelling, grammar, syntax, and punctuation without the tool changing the meaning of the text. Lastly, you must reflect on the added value of the tool. In this use case, you are really looking to improve the quality of language. This preliminary thought process will help you write quality prompts for the GenAI tool.
Now it’s time to open the tool of your choice. You drag and drop your text or insert it through the paperclip, and then you write your request. Personally, I usually use the structure “role, task, format” in my prompts. I will give you an example here.
Prompt displayed on the screen
Role: As an undergraduate student in business administration, I have to write an analysis.
Task: Correct the entire text.
Format: Without changing the meaning of the text, correct any spelling, grammar, punctuation, or syntax errors and create a table with three columns: 1st column (error), 2nd column (correction), and 3rd column (explanation).
Then click send.
The results of the prompt appear on the screen.
See, it’s really interesting. All the corrections, even typographical although I didn’t ask for it, are included. I will take this opportunity to tell you that you can also have your bibliographies corrected based on the style requested in your course, which is usually in APA style.
Right now, looking at corrections, I am realizing that I talk a lot about mental health, mental health, employee, employee. So I will give it another prompt about textual repetitions.
Prompt displayed on screen: If there are repetitions in the text, please show me some synonyms. Without changing the meaning of the text, create a table with 3 columns: 1st column (the repeated word), 2nd column (the proposed synonym), and 3rd column (explanation).
The results of the prompt appear on the screen.
When I look at the synonyms it proposes, I find some pretty interesting suggestions. Now that I am satisfied with the tool’s results, I can take a critical look at them as I incorporate them into my text.
Don’t ever just copy and paste the results. You need to carefully read each suggestion and enter them manually. In this way, you remain the author of your text, and GenAI is used as an assistant rather than a senior editor.
